Since this work plays a vital part in the history of Wolfgang Paul, in fact, his life-work, as far as his professional “mining story” is concerned, the following “brief insight” is presented in the spirit of gratitude to God, who made it possible for him to respond to both “mining …a calling of peculiar dignity,” and to the Master’s call to follow Him, even to be His servant – all by His grace.

To This Day the “spirit of mining,” the rich traditions and cultural elements in the mining profession – the decisive contributions miners have made to civilization at large, throughout thousands of years – are generally unknown.  Hence, this book was written and compiled as a testimonial – an indispensable resource not only with respect to mining, but also to the humanities, ethnography, anthropology, religion and the arts in the broadest sense.  The author of MINING LORE covers indeed a vast territory of human endeavor.  As one reviewer keenly observed about it: “The writer has a distinct perspicacity in relating widely different activities to mining.”  Many interesting facts are brought to light in this informative work.
